Fabulous news!

In our fight against poverty corporations are coming together to help us! Thanks so much!

FSNFE Food Security Network Fort Erie meeting notes 11 Feb 2015 – people give a $2 donation while out shopping for their groceries. And they get a coupon book for $11.25. (I don’t know if they pay that much or it’s worth that much – sorry I forgot to ask!)

Some of the participants here in Fort Erie are Sobey’s, No Frills (food basics? – not sure which one) and so on…

They raise money to feed kids at school

The 2015 Toonies for Tummies campaign runs in participating grocery stores in Ontario and Atlantic Canada next February. They include Sobeys, Metro, Food Basics, Foodland, Freshco, Longo’s, Colemans, Co-op Atlantic and Galati Market.

This year, the Toonies for Tummies campaign raised $864,000. More than 400,000 shoppers made a donation.

A microsite at TooniesForTummies.ca lets consumers in Ontario track their donations to local schools and, in Atlantic Canada, identify the local groups involved in providing meals.

The microsite was set up in response to a survey of consumers by Leger Canada and The Grocery Foundation that revealed more than 87 per cent would be more likely to give to charity if they knew where their donation was going.

World Hunger Day 28 may 2015

We discussed Every Plate Full (someone thinks this will be the Niagara Region’s name for World Hunger Day but I thought it’s a different program, no one knows at the moment).

We talked about getting donations for Sally’s garden

going to the Garden Gallery to do a fundraiser (anne and the salvation army is already their charity so combine the two ideas)

Build awareness for our community kitchen project thAT’S IN the works to be built at the Salvation Army kitchen on Gilmore Rd in Fort Erie Ontario once funding is in place.

handing out seed packets (freely donated to us from another source to those that donate towards it

figuring out if they want to put up a stand at the Ridgeway Farmer’s Market

OAFB – Ontario Association Food Banks is in my notes I think they might provide something for this? 🙂
