Mary Anne invited Harry and I to attend the next meeting for the Fort Erie Food Security Network after finding out that I have experience in Fundraising for a school, church and other organizations in the past. ( I started it at the age of 8 and have done it off and on for the past 40 years)

It was interesting to find out I know NOTHING about all sorts of cool organizations here in the Niagara Region and in Fort Erie Ontario Canada that are working hard to serve the people needs, family, food, housing and jobs. It’s great to see that our government helps with the funding of these different organizations so that people can live a decent and prosperous life no matter what they do every day.

Here are my meeting notes.

FEFSN

they don’t have a website (they don’t want one at this time) so I’ll blog what I can to help as a volunteer.

Trick or Can brought in tons of food for the Salvation Army and Anne is working hard on her own along with several volunteers to sort the food.

She could use more help!

She’s there Mon, Wed, Fri 11 am to 430 pm, and Tues, Thurs from 9 am to 430 pm, so give her a helping hand whenever you CAN.. get it… sorting canned goods? lol

CANNED HELP 🙂

Then they discussed the Community Kitchen project which is hoping to build a public accessible kitchen in the basement of the Salvation Army on Gilmore Rd.

Here lessons will be taught on how to cook food, prepare yummy delicious nutritious meals and budget your pennies ooops we don’t have those anymore! budget your nickels, dimes, quarters, loonies, toonies and dollar bills 🙂

It will focus on Health, cooking classes

I found out there is a MOBILE KITCHEN from SAlvation Army that goes out Monday evenings after 5 pm from Ridgeway, Crystal Beach and stops at Jarvis St around 830 pm 🙂

People we met today:
Anne (Salvation Army), Maureen (Dietician at Bridges) , Nancy Ryan – Meals on Wheels, Sandy (adult literacy), Rhonda (in charge and doing the presentation for the meeting), Harold and Linda (us), Rod – (retired lawyer works with refugee cases and other things), Laurie (school travel planning Niagara region), Jude (multicultural native sorry I didn’t get her full descriptions).

It was a pleasure to meet some of the people that are working on getting this program rolling.

Today we got to vote on a LOGO that Nancy’s son has been busy developing. There were 3 choices, so we put our initials beside the logo of choice and I guess that will determine the winner. 🙂

Rhonda was asking if anyone knows a Phyllis Moore she lives in the north end of Fort Erie, we are missing her email address and Rhonda wants to contact her. Rod says she went to a central united church but not sure where she can be contacted. Phyllis please contact Rhonda to update your email address. 😉

sorry if I spelled your name wrong.
